There are few things I enjoy as much as a good conspiracy theory. The upcoming election in the United States will be fascinating because there is a high probability we will find out if there are any hidden puppet masters running the United States. That would happen if, for example, Obama is clearly ahead in the polls in November but somehow loses the election. I consider both of those outcomes likely.

Obama's tax plan involves taking money from the presumed puppet masters (rich people and corporations) and divvying it up among the people he hopes will vote for him (the masses). The only way that approach could fail with voters is if there really are puppet masters and they really are determining who gets to be president.

>>The only way that approach could fail with voters is if there really are puppet masters and they really are determining who gets to be president.

Or if people realize that taking money away from the most productive people who create the nation's jobs and distributing it to the same people who overwhelmingly spent their tax rebate checks on 'consumer electronics' would be an extremely short-sighted and detrimental policy.

One thing you neglected to consider with regards to other possibilities of Obama being ahead in the polls but losing the election is the Bradley effect. People don't necessarily vote the way they indicate to pollsters, especially if they do not wish to appear racially insensitive to the pollster.

Perhaps it's possible, Scott, that Obama will not be elected because he doesn't win the election! It probably shouldn't surprise me that you are a bleeding heart liberal, but, that said, take responsibility for your stance, and any impending failure. Just because you and yours don't "win," does NOT indicate that there are spooky powers aligning against you and your camp. It is possible you will be in the minority come election time. It is possible there are fewer people in the Obama demographic than have thus far been represented in the biased liberal media. It is possible that many people who are on the fence just can't get a sense of anything Obama has accomplished during his short time in politics and continue to be swayed by his connections with terrorists and racists. Or perhaps they get blown off that fence by the ranting and raving from his ridiculous, woe-is-me, America sucks wife!
At any rate, I think you're a very bright, very funny, very talented artist. I will continue with the strip, but I believe I will have to excuse myself from reading the blog.

Conspiracy? Obama is really the front man for the Bilderbergs; and only 500 million will be served. He is just there to give us the illusion that their is the slightest hope; that there is a possibility of fairness and sanity in the universe. But no, never. Because Howard Hughes and Elvis are in a death struggle in Las Vegas to be "King".
This was all planned out on a distant galaxy that is much larger than ours as a game of Sim City 5; Earth is yours to twist.

Here's another solution to your 'conspiracy': Polls are public. People are going to care what the pollster things about them in some cases, so they are going to be PC. Voting for Obama appears to be the PC answer. In a closed poll booth, that PC'ness goes out the window and true colors show up. Hence Obama could easily be winning at the polls and lose the actual election without any 'puppet masters' at work.

So a couple of random thoughts for the day on puppet masters and taxes:

Taxes--What is the purpose of taxes (in case you are wondering where I got this go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taxes#The_Four_.22R.22s)?

The Four "R"s
Taxation has four main purposes or effects: Revenue, Redistribution, Repricing, and Representation.[3]

The main purpose is revenue: taxes raise money to spend on roads, schools and hospitals, and on more indirect government functions like good regulation or justice systems. This is the most widely known function.[3]

A second is redistribution. Normally, this means transferring wealth from the richer sections of society to poorer sections, and this function is widely accepted in most democracies, although the extent to which this should happen is always controversial.[3]

A third purpose of taxation is repricing. Taxes are levied to address externalities: tobacco is taxed, for example, to discourage smoking, and many people advocate policies such as implementing a carbon tax.[3]

A fourth, consequential effect of taxation in its historical setting has been representation.[3] The American revolutionary slogan "no taxation without representation" implied this: rulers tax citizens, and citizens demand accountability from their rulers as the other part of this bargain. Several studies have shown that direct taxation (such as income taxes) generates the greatest degree of accountability and better governance, while indirect taxation tends to have smaller effects.[4][5]

The fourth consequential effect of taxation is where on average the American citizen is missing in action on making our representatives (whether in town, city, state or federal government) government accountable, and where the puppet-masters (aka lobbyists representing special groups) kick in. If you haven't attending a budget meeting or reviewed a budget proposal and sent your representatives a letter (either positive or negative) then you are essentially surrendering your voice on how the revenue collected by the government is being spent.

Since nature abhors a vacuum, if you surrender a voice and allow a vacuum to occur lobbyists (aka puppet-masters) will step in. So if you don't like what is going on OR you don't like what has gone on OR don't like what you think will go on then get active, make your voice be heard and negate the vacuum.

Of course there is a conspiracy, but it's more complex than simply the rich taxpayers controlling things. The secretive .00002% that run things probably don't give a crap about such petty things as 'taxes'.... Even if there are rich corporate 'puppet-masters' controlling the elections, even they are controlled by the Illuminati. Their motives are going to be more far reaching than the next 4-8 years of US tax policy...

Sorry for the out of topic comment, but.. is there a way (or would there be a way) to have the strips section as it was before? The new layout with all that new design looks a tad too heavy for me...

Re: "Three may keep a secret if two of them are dead." - Benjamin Franklin. The biggest problem with most conspiracy theories is that they posit the existence of a fairly large number of conspirators. Given human nature, in any such group some will become disillusioned, disgruntled*, disenchanted, disgusted, or just fed up and inevitably talk about the group's secrets. The word will get out. Still, it is easy to believe that there are groups of people devoting time and money to activities (some probably secret) that they think may offer them some control or influence. In fact, I'd be willing to bet there are many such groups, usually working at cross purposes and mostly canceling each other out."
Of course there are!!! CIA, DIA, NSA, The Whitehouse, RAND Corp., Monsanto, Dupont, Mobil-Exxon. Do you really think you really know what's going on???

*Why is it always "disgruntled?" Doesn't anyone ever simply get "gruntled?"

Remember when Ford was President and New York went Bankrupt ?

Ford made the correct decision to use taxpayers money to continue basic services
like schools, police, garbage collection, fire department, etc but the holders of the
tax exempt bonds would be out of luck.

Later he reversed himself and used taxpayer money to pay off all the bond holders.
I don't know who these bond holders were, but apparently were powerful enough
to influence a President. They don't want Government regulation to interfere with
profits but require the taxpayers to insure them against loss.

Now many banks are hurting due to the mortgage crises, so the Fed is loaning them
money at a low rate so they can make loans at a higher rate in order to cover
their losses.

These corporations don't have the power to rig an election (unless it's close)
but there is a lot of hidden agendas in our Government once someone is elected.

I believe it is too risky for anyone to try to rig an election when it is so much easier
to own the Congress and the various departments.

Here's an idea: why don't we elect a clueless, racist, America-hating, anti-Semitic , marxist egomaniac as President? Scott Adams would get enough ideas for Dilbert strips to last the rest of his life.

Obama and his brain-dead supporters; what a bunch of pathetic losers.

You really don’t like McCain do you? Obama’s speeches indicate that his approach to world terrorism and foreign policy are diplomacy, sanctions, appeasement, let’s talk to them, carrot and stick, economic incentives and conciliation. He leans toward passivism, accession, negotiations, peacekeeping mediation, coalitions, arbitration, adjudication, settlement, intercession and pleading to common sense.

Maybe there is room for some of these attempts but the hard core religious fanatics that have infiltrated the Middle East and other anti-American hot spots in the world want to rule the political and military structure for their own sworn purposes of destroying the infidels. They consider all these weak-kneed policies pathetic.

President Wilson tried this course of action before WW! and look where it led.
