I think the punchline is funny because in asking them over to turn it on for him he's not *only* showing off what he has, he's showing off the fact that he has it all and doesn't even need or want or is capable of actually using it. So well-off that he isn't even satisfying a desire for stuff, just buying it for the hell of it.

I find the punchline a little strange: why would that activity be fun? To show off the fancy equipment?
