My point was that engineers are not more self-aware than other people, especially as portrayed in Dilbert. Maybe I am failing to parse cluelessness enough. Engineers don't understand why they can't get dates, but do understand the cause-effect relationships driving salary disparities (converse for tech writers).
Possibly, but I think it's more likely just a shot at liberal arts majors. I believe it was Tina the tech writer that was forced to lament having spent her college days drinking beer and studying English lit. To be fair, I'm an English major, and my roommate is in EE. It's pretty apparent that his course-load is far more rigorous than mine. That, and it's Catbert. He's evil, after all.
Catbert's explanation seems counter-intuitive to me. After all, Dilbert often babbles in technical jargon to laypersons because he doesn't realize that some people are not proficient engineers. Maybe Catbert is just referring to the economic processes that lead to different salaries for different types of jobs, which must be understood with a scientific mindset.
