My boss used a hand-held PacMan game to show us our pay raise scale (or lack there of) adjusted for cost of living. I need a new job. Someone save me!

The sad part is, is that the economics of today don't require you to be above the midpoint for your raise to be gobbled up by inflation.

Like superpotts I need some clarification. I think I get it, but I know Mr Adams sometimes has a naughty streak and get censored. Is there some subtle under-joke about socks that I'm missing? (I'm British, and our sock jokes may be different from yours). jcipc2004's explanation seems too straightforward to me.
