My point was simply to specify the few energy sources that are not entirely dependent on the sun's nuclear burning. I was impressed by SA's recognition of how many different energy sources can all be subsumed under the category of solar energy. Tidal energy cannot be so subsumed.

There would be tidal energy without the influence of the sun. It's almost a meaningless thing to say so, since so much of our existence is tied to the sun. But still.

It is amazing the lengths people will go to attempt a quibble. Next time, hfelsh, what you might try correcting is a mistake.

Actually, tides are influenced by both the moon AND the sun, so you're wrong on that on. I won't get into the geothermal one....

Wow, it's a rare thing to see a comic strip that makes a joke about how solar radiation fuels (almost) the entire biosphere. Food, biofuel, wind, hydro, and fossil fuels are all indirect solar energy. Only tidal and geothermal energy are not.
