Good point, Kevin. I was going to reference Microsoft's constant efforts to cut off Windows XP in an effort to force us all to "upgrade" to Vista. It is still just about possible to get hold of a new copy of XP until the middle of April, which you can do by PAYING for Vista and then downgrading! This is despite the fact that XP works relatively well, and Vista is a piece of junk.
Of course, that's pressure from a corporation rather than the government. :-p
1.) ... federally mandated upgrades ....who was the lobbyist? ...
2.) for anyone who thinks this doesn't happen in real life ... been to an electronics store lately? Been watching the ads on TV for the past six months? By a certain date in February, you have to upgrade your old TV with a DTV conversion boxes (if you're cheap or too poor) or if you're rich or have just enough credit, buy a new HDTV set or no more broadcast television. Because a great number of people STILL haven't converted yet, I predict that many local stations and broadcast networks will temporarily stream their content for sixty to ninety days over the internet, until enough people "upgrade".
