Last year my boss lectured me at a mid term about being aware of other people's perceptions of me. His first item of evidence was when he told me that he heard from someone... who overheard another woman... in another division... and you can imagine the rest. His second item was when he told me about how I offended a large woman when I suggested we take a walk to find the person she was looking for. He told me clearly she was large and she reacted badly because of my inference that she needed exercise. After a sleepless night, I went to see the woman and told her I needed to apologize to her. When I told her about my boss' observation she called him an idiot. When I asked if she would like to explain the story to him from her point of view she declined saying she would regret what she said. I went back to my boss and told him about my conversation and he became flustered worrying that I related what he said to the woman involved. I told him if I offended her I needed to apologize. I tried to tell him the Aesop fable about the boy the man and the donkey but it was lost on him. He was too flustered to be coherent.
