I myself work in an IT company and even our payroll operations are outsourced to a third party. When I first commented on this strip, I though Scott is exaggerating. After having reading almost 15 comments after mine I now see the reality.

And what dvorak said ("Any sufficiently advanced bug is indistinguishable from a feature") is a software programmer's mantra which we all are aware of. Brilliant comic timing though!

"Any sufficiently advanced bug is indistinguishable from a feature"

This is here is our "Payroll Predator" mode. It will occasionally track down and corrupt your payroll data from across the internet, BUT if you're company is very lucky it will get confused and find your competitor's payroll data instead. You have no liability because its a 'bug' and you can increase the odds in your favor by hanging horseshoes in your server room.

My favourite. I love this strip, especially the last panel, which should not be taken literally. The last panel reminds us that we are all fallable.

As a consultant and I often have to answer questions about software which, athough I don't know exactly how it works in every detail, I know enough about in general about how it is supposed to work. You assume that the person who wrote the software wasn't from another planet and had some idea of what they were supposed to be doing. You assume that the software won't be totally and utterly bizarre.

The trouble is that every now-and-again you are wrong ...
