Where I work, we don't call them "mentoring sessions" but rather "coachings." I guess the theory is that calling it something different will fool everyone, but it's still being told how to do things by an inept pile of carbon in a cheap suit.

That is so very true of ANY government agency! Just ask my wife (a social worker) what she thinks of those idiots working in the state office. (Over paid, Under competent) Unfortunate.
And we wonder why nothing ever gets done (by the Government mules)

If you speak up and it is a good idea they will forget they didn't think of it themselves, and if you try to point out that it was actually your idea... well got to get rid of this one he doesn't tow the line.

Playing possum at meetings is a good strategy, unless you can make it count.

Take it from me, speaking out at meetings can be the kiss of death at a job. But I expect you people know that.

This is typical of a high tech shop. Anybody who is competent is indispensible as a worker bee and is, therefore, ineligible for promotion. When the time comes to promote from within, the only choice is the most incompetent employee. When that person is deemed incompetent to manage at that position, the only choice is to push them up a level where they can do less damage. It's a sad and unfortunate variation on the Peter Principle. That's where PHB's come from.
