I wonder whether Scott is doing all this zooming in and out, weird angles, etc. to bait the people who try to spot inconsistencies from one frame to another - as if minor continuity errors are the most important part of the strip. He probably gets quite a chuckle out of some of the comments people leave, and I think he's playing a joke on the pedants who frequent the Comments box.
