When someone says in my presence that I'm "doing something" that I'm not sure I'm doing, I immediately tell them, with a bit of chuckle, that it was an interesting joke they cracked, but it should not be repeated. Thus I plant the seeds of doubt in the executive heads, which helps a lot to clarify things asap.
