I call this, "Image Centered Leadership." Not too long ago, I read a research article describing how, in peace time, tall and handsome (armed forces) officers who "looked the part" got promoted, while in war time those officers who could produce results were more likely to be promoted, regardless of the fact that they either were short, bald, fat or ugly. Even more recent was a Time article talking about how Americans elected politicians who looked the part rather than judging them on their capabilities (e.g., the German prime Minister). Same thing.
Good point hatchm; he's made a full recovery from being shaped like a snickers bar before, so I would be surprised if he can't figure this one out somehow.
