Who wrote this one..... This is not Wally at all. He is the Ninja master when it comes to not being cornered. You need to set up the situation with the manager. Mention the certification name a couple times and make it sound like everyone needs it. If it gets to plan B, you invent a reason to come in late for the meeting and miss the round table. (It seems like the micro management hand book is being used every where now). this is way too much confrontation for Wally.
Interesting why Wally should say he "accomplished nothing" and then recoil from the fact so he needs a back-up plan. When I reported going through certification, my boss asked me how it went and I said "fine", so we went to the next topic. A week wasted is a week wasted.
