The following really works and is mandatory to make it to Dilbert yellow belt
Create aliases for every project your running. I your manager to all of them for two reasons
1) They can see how busy you look (Managers treat email as a sign of accomplishment)
2) Send the agendas & status for each to the aliases (which stops the need for weekly updates on your projects)
Then make sure to lock down the alias so your manager has to contact you to get off the alias (admit defeat). If they do ask, lie and tell them that you did. Wait until you have been asked at least 3 times before you do it.
When my new boss got me in a room and told me in his opinion I did nothing, I simply cc.'d him all of my email responses to clients for a week. He addressed me as "sir" after that and never bothered me again. In fact I got a "thank you" for work well done at least once a week.
