Sigh. It's too bad that common sense isn't.

The "corporate tax is a hidden tax on the consumer" right wing talking point would make a lot more sense if corporate taxes were levied on SALES and not on PROFITS. The corporate tax could be raised to 100% and still have no effect on consumer prices. Of course, that would have other negative effects so I'm not advocating that. Corporate taxes should be cut to something like 25% to be more in line with other OECD economies, but we'd also have to cut the loopholes as well (the EFFECTIVE corporate tax rate, the percent corporations actually pay is somewhere between 12 and 20 percent depending on who you believe) -- I am sure the lobbyists will make sure those loopholes never go away.

I have to say thank you for this comic strip! I had written a blog post about Google and the Dutch Sandwich Tax (http://everydaytipsandthoughts.com/tax-avoidance-double-irish-and-dutch-sandwiches/) back in October, and this comic sent a ton of traffic to my site. I am guessing people didn't know what 'dutch sandwich' was about and Googled it! :)
