Ghandi said that the worst kind of violence was to make a person poor. He also said that violence was never justified. But...... Ghandi's actions directly led to poverty for thousands of English millworkers. So according to Ghandi's philosophy, Ghandi was a perpetrator of the worst kind of violence, and again according to his own philosophy, there was absolutely no justification for what he did.
"if all of us were less greedy in our lifestyles and lived on Gandhi's principles of simplicity and humanity, there is no reason why other people would be so hostile towards us. "
You still live in the world of ignorance. I can remember my childhood bullies (they always got ticked off for no valid reason). Sometime, "no reason" is a good enough reason for someone to get hostile towards us.
Unfortunately, we under-estimate Gandhi and the power of truth and non-violence. We rarely self-introspect to see how we ourselves contribute to problems that we face.
The solution offered by Gandhi were apt for winning freedom against the British. I believe using the strength that he derived from his beliefs, he would be able to find creative solutions to present day problems as well.
We should not forget that a lot of what 'developed countries' do to corner more and more wealth and power contribute directly or indirectly to terrorism. For instance, there is a theory that Taliban was infact created by the US to counter Russia's threat to seize power in Afghanistan. US has been a blind supporter to Isarel's offensive ways in the middle east...
As citizens, if all of us were less greedy in our lifestyles and lived on Gandhi's principles of simplicity and humanity, there is no reason why other people would be so hostile towards us.
