4G stands for LTE (it used to stand for an even more advanced technology no one really used, but they switched it to mean LTE). But there is no official definition of it by a standards body, yet.

Hence, anyone can brand their phones as 4G. Or 8G. Since in legal terms it doesn't mean something.
