If I were in dilbert's shoes I'd probably say, "Sorry PHB, Am I in the way of you telling your legendary golfing stories? I'll just get back to working on that proposal you assigned to me a few weeks back." Doesn't even matter if the Boss really asked me to work on a proposal or not, he'd have already forgotten by this point anyway.
