It's awkward to be introduced to someone by another colleague, and before you said your first word, they say "I don't believe we will be working together or that our roles have any contact point whatsoever".
That's a sure sign that they take advantage of the first discussion, making absolutely clear they expect it to be the last.
Once I was introduced to a manager by my boss in these words "you two have a lot to talk about". No we didn't.
