Kaffekup: The quick and dirty on bitcoins is that you "mine" bitcoins by solving a very intensive calculation. At this point, the easy ones have been done and you need some dedicated computers just chugging away to mine one of the remaining bitcoins. (There's only a limited universe of potential solutions, thus avoiding the inflation issue inherent with fiat currency. The difficulty goes up exponentially as solutions are found.)

I'm not aware of any phones that are that powerful. Most computers aren't powerful enough, either. The web sites I did a cursory review of when I first thought about it said that people used computers with high end graphics cards to perform the calculation. I decided it probably wouldn't not make money for me, so I didn't follow up.
